Shinjitsu

A VR Horror Game

VR Horror Project: Welcome

Level Designs

Here is a collection of the level designs I've created for my VR Psychological Horror Game. It began as a diamond shape for reference. I added many different sized buildings along the thin street with smaller alleyways leading to the back-alley. However, I later changed the design of the level to be much more symmetrical to provide an easier route of navigation for the player.

I also created some one-point perspective designs of the environment to present how the player could view the game and what I should consider when creating the 3D block-out.

Unreal Engine Block-Out

After creating the level designs and concept art of the environments, I began creating a 3D block-out in Unreal Engine 4 which will be used later for digital concepts and texturing.

Many of the obstructions I created within this environment are: sushi bars, bistros, apartment buildings, shops, back-alleys and a bridge with a train track. I believe I could increase the immersion of the player by adding a vintage train carriage which goes by overhead the alleyway which cherry petals fall. Due to the fact the game will be a horror, the train can also be used as a jump-scare.

Environment Designs

After creating the concept art, I moved on to creating digitally illustrated environments utilising the brushes in MediBang Paint. Whilst creating the environments, I considered the theme of the day, the setting, time, genre along with adding obstructions within the environment which could cause the player to make some navigation choices which can impact their gameplay. In addition, I created a block-out in Photoshop as a conceptual plan of my environment using many high resolution textures such as bricks, stone and concrete.

Character Designs

Here are some sketched and digital concepts of the characters which will be in my VR Horror game. I have experimented with the colour red which symbolises evil and anger which fits well with the overall theme of the game. These characters will also blend in well with the surroundings of the Japanese alleyway.
